In order to answer the question, Is there no truth in matter? Starting from the basis that God is infinite Life, Truth, and Love, it follows that all that can exist in the entire universe must be the emanation of God.

This is of course assuming that God is infinite. What is the opposite of Truth but a lie. The conclusion, therefore, forced upon one, is that the existence of an opposite to God is entirely illogical and supposititious.

In fact there can be no truth in it. With this is also bound up the other question, Is there no substance in matter?

Is this human or mortal mind inside or outside the human head? Medical theories are silent on this point. That this mind can be the emanation of God is impossible, because God could not be the originator of the evil thoughts and desires which proceed from it.

But, one may ask quite naturally, if this material world is only the counterfeit of the true one, where is the real one and has anybody seen it?

In divine Science, man possesses this recognition of harmony consciously in proportion to his understanding of God.

Whether anyone has ever been conscious of the kingdom of heaven is best answered by reading the wonderful description John wrote to the seven churches in Asia of the revelation which came to him while a prisoner on the island of Patmos, off the coast of Asia Minor.

Dishonesty is human weakness, which forfeits divine help. In the same way it can be shown that as weakness is the natural expression of mortality there can be no such thing as human strength.

What is called human strength and what appears in human experience as strength, either mental or physical, seems to exist because of the omnipresence of spiritual power and because the belief in human weakness is either being temporarily held in check by blind belief, or because the idea of spiritual power is being perceived through spiritual understanding.

Strength, dependent on blind belief is the honesty of the time server. Honesty dependent on spiritual understanding is spiritual power.

In human experience the terms honesty and dishonesty are used to express what are really degrees of dishonesty. These degrees extend from complete lack of any sense of honesty to its highest possible human perception.

This progressive unfoldment of a human sense of honesty follows the perception, at least in some degree, of the true idea of honesty in its dependence on Principle.

In other words spiritual power becomes operative in human affairs as it is perceived in individual consciousness.

Any action seems legitimate if only it will bring material gain. Desire is directed to position, power, money, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life, and the propulsive power is human weakness, dishonesty.

Understanding is inseparable from expression. Principle and its expression is one, and so in belief the counterfeit mind and its expression is one.

Thus a man is rightly judged by his deeds. The belief that mind can be separated from its expression, that a man can think right and act wrong, is the essence of dishonesty.

That belief necessitates the acceptance of minds many and suggests the possible separation of Principle and idea. To believe that one can have a human sense of honesty unaccompanied by its demonstration is to believe that the human mind can hold an independent idea of honesty.

This is equivalent to saying that the human mind has spiritual power, which is the root of the belief in will-power, wrong practice, and mesmerism.

What a man knows about the idea of honesty, which idea never leaves the divine Mind, is seen by the amount of honesty he expresses in his life.

Since the world of material belief emerged from the chaos of the complete acceptance of matter, as indicated in the first chapter of Genesis, belief has gradually been disappearing before the perception of spiritual power.

This clearer perception of spiritual power has appeared mainly because of the practical expression of honesty in human living. Whenever the practice of honesty seems to have gone ahead of the perception of the idea, a further perception of that idea has been added.

Similarly, whenever the practice of honesty has lagged behind the possible perception of the idea, the mist has once more risen from the earth as described in the second chapter of Genesis.

It made him an honest man, a good carpenter, and a good man, before it could make him the glorified. The declaration of the unreality of human experience has sometimes been held, by critics of Christian Science, to be a reason for the possible justification of wrong actions in that experience.

Such dishonesty could only be practiced by one who had exchanged a belief in matter for a belief in self-deception.

Self-deception may lead to the justification of wrong action by the thought that good will result, but Christian Science demands that even in the unreality of human experience, a stand be made for the highest possible sense of honesty.

It may be an uphill struggle but it is the only way out of unreality. It is necessary, however, to perceive that when progress has been made it has followed the action of some one who not only stood for his highest sense of honesty but perceived a further and more metaphysical sense of honesty and tried for it.

The Plan of Principle. The wrecks of human plans and policies fairly litter the pages of history, because anything that is not found in Principle is as the substanceless shadow, that which seems to be something but is not.

Material thinking and human policy, with its disappointed hope, have been partners from the beginning. This is but another way of saying that the plan and the planner, the mental activity and its product, are one, and both fall into the ditch unless they are in conformity with Principle and its idea.

Human thought has a way of taking an inventory of its stock in trade, and then, in league with the serpent, laying its plans to seize the fruit which it deems most desirable.

Certainly such plans will exist as long as there seems to be a mind capable of forming them. Every individual should be alive to what is going on in the recesses of thought, where plans are born, and where they sometimes abide for a season unannounced and unrecognized.

The activity of good is all that is needed to reveal the character of those concepts which are silently molding character as well as future plans.

In the secret imagery of the human mind habits of thought should be carefully watched and constantly purified. The unfaithful shepherd will, ere long, find himself forced to meet the issues, which, in the absence of correction, have assumed mighty power in his thought-processes.

The faithful shepherd sees to it that thought is guided by the firm rod of Principle, and to such a one is revealed the plan of God, a vista of salvation and eternity.

Who can doubt that a knowledge of Principle, and its inevitable and omnipresent law, saves mankind from the erroneous thoughts that otherwise would mold and shape human plans and actions?

The only safe source from which any life-plan may be drawn is that understanding of natural good which utilizes the eternal vigilance of Principle.

No one can afford to drift with the tide, and neglect to subject his plans to severe scrutiny. Judas Iscariot presents a notable example of the action of this influence, together with the results of a plan based upon human policy, the basic thoughts of which had been silently sulking, possibly unrecognized, in the innermost chambers of his thought.

That Christ Jesus actively and consciously planned on living forever is a fact beyond successful contradiction. Every utterance of his proved that his purpose contemplated nothing less than a continuous and uninterrupted existence.

Every thought that entered into his plan for each day must have considered nothing but eternity. Human sense takes exactly the opposite view.

Life, which it generally regards as a desirable possession, is supposed to force mankind along a pathway to death, which is regarded as being most undesirable.

Until that belief is replaced with truth, and the understanding of the divine plan of eternal life is gained, the destiny, which was so natural and evident to Christ Jesus, will seem impossible and even impracticable.

The great Teacher had a pronounced disregard for the common, accepted method of trusting human ingenuity and its plans for the future. Sufficient unto the day is the evil [sense] thereof.

On the basis that the end justifies the means it has attempted to carry out many curious plans. To this sense, necessity, not Mind, is supposed to be the mother of invention.

After this fashion, a strange necessity which is supposed to exist, has mothered an equally strange plan. The inspiration of Spirit annuls such theories.

Communion with God needs no support from human preparation or devices, but exposes, rebukes and destroys them. The Everpresence of Mind. One would be perfectly safe in the conclusion that, generally speaking, there are few of these who are cognizant of the real truth in their descriptions.

The truth of the matter is, that any man, who is governed by divine Mind, which is God, knows that Truth controls every situation into which he may be precipitated; for, as Mrs.

When men go on a journey, there are many who will take fear along with them on such journeys. If they would substitute for this fear the knowledge that God, Mind, is omnipotent and omnipresent, the realization of which brings harmony in place of discord, they would be free to enjoy their journey.

The way to overcome fear of any kind is one of the many practical things which Christian Science is holding out to its sincere student.

Distinctly, all is the creation of God, Mind. Man is created in the image of Mind, and is given dominion. Reflecting Mind, he had absolute control in every situation.

The exterminator of error is the great truth that God, good, is the only Mind, and that the supposititious opposite of infinite Mind—called devil or evil—is not Mind, is not Truth, but error, without intelligence or reality.

There can be but one Mind, because there is but one God; and if mortals claimed no other Mind and accepted no other, sin would be unknown. We can have but one Mind, if that one is infinite.

Thus it will be learned, in Christian Science, that Mind creates and governs all, and that man is created in the image and likeness of God.

And to the extent of such reflection will man be found to have dominion over discordant surroundings. When the occasion arises for quick and right action, the holding in thought of the image whom God created and to whom He gave dominion, will enable one to exercise the power and province of that image.

The result inevitably will be that one will find the intelligence instantly to meet the situation courageously and rightly. Divine Service. The Christian Science Church is assisting mankind to meet this requirement, and in its simple services is presenting to the world a greater advance toward the ideal which Mind knows.

And, in truth, a man can always and anywhere demonstrate, by means of the understanding of divine Science, the omnipresence of God, divine Principle, and His idea.

Principle alone gives to worship its vitality and realness. Hence the church that is real is the activity of divine Principle. It is the representative of Soul, and is without human history and without beginning and ending.

It is produced by God, and what divine, unlimited Mind produces must surely be unlimited. Consequently, the forever perfect church as the structure of Mind is always present and exclusive.

As the infinite emanation of Truth, there is nothing like it, nothing opposite to it, and nothing in addition to it, for Mind and its idea are all.

It would be presumptuous for men to affirm that worship of Spirit could take place only in a building of brick and mortar.

The place in which to have communion with God, or Truth, usually confined by men to what they term a house of worship, is actually everywhere.

The divine Mind is not bounded by four walls, but is available at all times and in all ways. The image and likeness of Soul is continually in communion with, or in union with Principle.

Comparing what Mrs. A man may avail himself at all times of the joys of really divine church-going, or communion with Mind, by spiritually understanding the relation of Spirit to its creation.

The very perfection and purity of the image of Mind is undying praise and worship of the source of all things—divine intelligence.

This is divine service. This very fact—that divine service makes its demands upon men at all times—will serve continually to improve the church organizations of the present day, and will make them more and more useful in protecting the increasing understanding which humanity has of the spiritual idea of mind.

Thus they will come more and more to demonstrate the meaning of that definition which Mrs. The structure of Truth and Love; whatever rests upon and proceeds from divine Principle.

The Church is that institution, which affords proof of its utility and is found elevating the race, rousing the dormant understanding from material beliefs to the apprehension of spiritual ideas and the demonstration of divine Science, thereby casting out devils, or error, and healing the sick.

The beautiful, good, and pure constitute his ancestry. His origin is not, like that of mortals, in brute instinct, nor does he pass through material conditions prior to reaching intelligence.

Spirit is his primitive and ultimate source of being; God is his Father, and Life is the law of his being. At one stroke, Mrs.
